As we reported a couple weeks ago, Disney recently filed 33 new permits for construction taking place as part of the big Epcot expansion project. One of those is a new Epcot Hotel, which will be located in one of two locations either right at or near the entrance to Epcot. Even though Disney hasn’t commented on it yet, land clearing for an Epcot Hotel support area has already started and can be seen from the monorail.
Before we start I want to thank @Bioreconstruct on Twitter for the photos as he always has great aerial shots of Walt Disney World so we can get a better view of what’s going on from above!
To get an idea of where this construction is taking place, look at the sections on the left marked: “Pond A – Phase 1” and “Pond A – Phase 2”
It’s right near the Mickey Solar Farm:

The land is being prepared for a water retention pond which will be used in support with the Epcot hotel construction:
So as you can see, even though Disney hasn’t officially said anything yet about the Epcot Hotel, it’s quite clear that it’s coming. I guess we need something to balance off the Epcot skyliner after the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster building will be dominating the other side of Spaceship Earth.
This is all part of the support infrastructure that needs to be in place for an Epcot hotel to be built. Parking and other support buildings will also be needed. Only question now is where exactly the Epcot hotel will go, either behind The Seas pavilion or right in front of the Epcot entrance. Stay tuned for more updates as soon as we have them.

I'm more excited about the Star Wars hotel over at Hollywood Studios. However, I am interested in seeing what this concept will turn into from a hotel standpoint. Disney's themed hotels are very impressive. While I prefer the hotel to be built where the parking lot for the busses currently are due to it would be less of an issue to access Epcot, I do think it would be cool to walk directly underneath the hotel at the entrance to Epcot if they can find a way to build it directly there. I doubt they would just because it blocks the view of Spaceship Earth for guests coming in from the parking lot.

I'm more excited about the Star Wars hotel too, but I can't wait to see what kind of design they come up with for the new Epcot hotel. Let's hope it doesn't block Spaceship Earth!
