Technical Problems Close Pandora The World of Avatar Attractions for Days

Pandora The World of Avatar Attractions ClosedUPDATE – 4/27/18: For the third day in a row the Na’vi River Journey will not be operational (Friday April 27) while Flight of Passage is back up and running without any noticeable problems.  It’s been a rough couple days for the Pandora: The World of Avatar attractions as they have been closed over the past couple days due to technical problems.  Both Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey were closed for periods on Tuesday April 24, 2018 and were closed all day Wednesday April 25, 2018 and the Na’vi River Journey was closed Thursday April 26, 2018, with Flight of Passage running with limited occupancy.

The problem seems to be with the fire detection system, though Disney has not confirmed this.  What makes it difficult is that both Pandora attractions: Na’vi River Journey and Flight of Passage share the same attraction building.  That means that at times technical problems with one attraction, can also affect the other.  Hopefully the problem will be resolved today seeing we are heading into Walt Disney World’s busiest season and both attractions are extremely popular.  We’ll keep you updated if any changes occur.

April 25, 2019 Apparently they haven’t resolved the issue. Avatar has been down all day. We didn’t bother with Na’vi assuming what you’ve already mentioned.

Arrived at Animal Kingdom for extra magic hours this morning, April 20, at 8 AM. We had FastPass reservations for later in the day for Flight of Passage, so our intention was to open the park with Na’vi River Journey. The Disney Parks app suspiciously did not report a wait time for River Journey upon entering the park, while Flight of Passage quickly climbed to 210 minutes (not a typo). When we approached the head of the line for Na’vi River Journey, several cast members informed us that River Journey was closed and would remain so for “an extended period.” They pleaded with the assembling queue to disperse, suggesting we would better spend our time elsewhere in the park. With another FastPass one hour later, I gambled on River Journey reopening and it did, about 15 minutes later. My family was the second boat of the day. The ride was normal for about the first 90%, but the boats backed up (many empty rafts were ahead of the first two paying passenger rafts) within sight of the passenger exit. After a 5 minute wait, the ride resumed. We never learned what the nature of the initial issues causing the delay of opening or the later near-exit point ride stoppage, but our Flight of Passage FastPass went off without a hitch a few hours later.

Hi Cory, thanks for the experience! Yeah there have been technical issues plaguing both attractions since opening, also complicated by the fact they are in the same building and that causes problems when there are fire alarms, etc. Disney won't be making that mistake again as it's been too complicated for operations. I don't know the reason for your specific problem that day but it's not uncommon unfortunately and since there had already been problems that day it was likely a continuation of whatever was causing the initial closure

These rides were the only reason returning to Disney. Very disappointed, arrived on Tuesday and left on Friday morning. Had fast passes for Wednesday was very excited until the big let down. Hope I can make it back again.

Thanks for writing Kathy. Yeah I can understand your situation, that's a real bummer when the rides you come for are down! :( I'm sure next time will go better for you!
