As part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Disney Vacation Club a new DVC Members lounge has opened up in Epcot.  The lounge is open from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and is only be available to DVC members. The space will be on the second floor of the Imagination! pavilion (with the Member Entrance in the ImageWorks merchandise location on the first floor of the pavilion.  From there you can reach the lounge with the stairs or glass elevator.

If you’ve been in the building before you know it’s a towering glass pyramid and the new DVC members lounge will offer amazing views of Epcot’s Future World!  You may remember also that this was the amazing play area after the Journey into Imagination attraction, you know where the awesome rainbow light tunnel was! (no I’m sorry, they didn’t bring it back). Since they’ve redesigned the pavilion in 1999 the space has gone mostly unused until now.  It will be a great place to go and take a reprieve battling the crowds and the Florida sun!

In addition to that parents can talk with the member service advisors and use them to make dining reservations or even help with resort stays with upcoming vacations.

Sounds great right?  Well in some ways it is, but I’m not 100% thrilled about the DVC Members Lounge.  The reason is the wining and dining of the Disney Vacation Club members and the neglect of the Annual Pass holders.  I mean the annual pass holders have been such loyal Disney supporters, many spending thousands and thousands of dollars, year after year, but it feels like Disney is catering to the high-end out of town visitors and ignoring all the faithful locals.

This is only just one of the benefits given to the DVC members this year, with after hours parties and special events available to them in the Magic Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Animal Kingdom and Epcot.  Disney should also have some lounges or areas with all the bells and whistles for the annual pass holders too!

What do you think?  Do you think it should be a DVC members lounge only or also for annual pass holders.  Let me know in the comments section below…

I would have to totally disagree with your statement. Just because someone is a DVC Member and might not go to the parks 12 times a year, doesn't mean that you are spending more money than someone like myself that goes 2 or 3 times a year. The special events in the parks you're speaking of are a benefit if you're there, but everyone has to plan their vacations so far in advance, that these events really don't matter. If.you're there, great. If not, no nig deal. You cant plan your vacation around these occassional extra events. So you're talking about the new lounge in Epcot? Not a big deal to me. I dont think the lounge will be all that popular. Annual pass holders can book rooms and get a free dining plan, something that is NOT available to a DVC Member.

Hey Jim, thanks for your reply! Yes I see your point, and of course you don't plan your trip just for the special events, whatever is there when you go, great! And while you as a DVC member go to Disney 2-3 times a year there are others I know unfortunately that have the membership and go very rarely and most years just sell their points. I'm not saying DVC members shouldn't have awesome perks, they should! But it would be nice in my opinion to include more benefits also for annual pass holders. Yes, the Epcot lounge isn't a make or break attraction in Walt Disney World, but imo it is a great idea and just wish it was open to others :)
